Construction Accessories supplied for Belfast Student Accommodation

SIG in Belfast supplied a wide range of products to the main contractor McAleer & Rushe, which included Ancon 25/14 system for fixing back to SFS, along with ties, screws and other fixings.

This project involved the demolition of an existing property and the erection of a purpose-built multi-storey managed student accommodation. The SIG branch in Belfast provided a wide range of construction accessories for this project, including:

  • Ancon 25/14 Restraint System: The system was used to tie the brick façade to the steel framing system (SFS).
  • Wall Ties: Supplied for both blockwork and brickwork construction.
  • Wire Reinforcement: Used for strengthening the masonry walls.
  • Brick and Blockwork Accessories: Various additional components to support the masonry construction.

Ancon 25/14 Restraint System

The Ancon 25/14 Restraint System is designed to tie masonry cladding to steel, timber, or concrete frames through a layer of insulation. Key features of this system include:

  • Channel: The 25/14 channel is supplied in lengths of 2700mm or 3000mm.
  • Fixing Method: Self-drilling high-thread screws fix through the channel and insulation into the steel frame.
  • Wall Ties: Once the channel is installed, Ancon SD25 wall ties can be positioned at any point along its length and are built into the bed joints of the outer leaf of brickwork.
  • Insulation Compatibility: The system can be used with various insulation types, including rigid PIR insulation (up to 220mm) and certain semi-rigid insulations (up to 180mm) without requiring a compression sleeve.

This system provides a flexible and efficient method for securing the masonry cladding to the building’s frame, allowing for proper insulation while ensuring structural integrity.
